George Gershwin nunca hubiera imaginado en 1933 que su canción de cuna se convertiria en una de las más populares de la historia ... y con alrededor de 30.000 diferentes versiones registradas.

Summertime fue compuesta como aria para la ópera Porgy and Bess de 1935 ... logrando con ello una gran popularidad desde su estreno ... y siendo rápidamente adoptada y adaptada por cantidad de músicos y cantantes de rock y jazz ... figuras como Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, Mahalia Jackson, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald realizaron impresionantes versiones.
